Besides playing their own music, Rob and the guys have backed up many stars, including: Natalie Cole, Perry Como, Johnny Mathis, The Manhattan Transfer, Aretha Franklin, Olivia Newton-John, Englebert Humperdinck, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Lou Rawls, Bob Newhart, Rosemary Clooney, Stanley Turrentine, Bill Watrous, Regis Philbin, Jack Jones, Joel Grey, Bobby Rydell, Al Martino, Jerry Vale, Tommy Tune, Joan Rivers, David Brenner, Sid Caesar and Imogene Coca, Susan Anton, and Julius La Rosa.

Rob himself also has performed with Sonny and Cher, Don Rickles, Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme, Clark Terry, Urbie Green, Bobby Watson, Wycliffe Gordon, Al Grey, Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr., Connie Stevens, and Connie Francis. He is an alumnus of the Tommy Dorsey, Glenn Miller, and Harry James Orchestras.

The Rob Stoneback Big Band has four recordings: Up Front (1983), Traditions (1990), Caught in the Web (1997 on the Sea Breeze label), and Mad to the Bone (2003), which features the legendary jazz trombonist Bill Watrous. All of these receive airplay on radio stations across the country.

In May 2007, the band recorded Simone on Simone, the first recording for Simone, the daughter of Nina Simone. This led to performances at the Berks Jazz Fest, the World Cafe in Philadelphia, and Lincoln Center in New York.
